Thank you for your interest in the CRAFTS!  Collective music video project.

I am excited to collaborate with you and show my vast community of talented crafters to the world!  Listen to the rough cut of the song by pressing the play button above!

In response to the current Social Distancing policies enacted in Washington, and since I’m out of a job, I have turned to my creative core to help me deal with anxiety.  Crafting has always been a healthy way for me to process all sorts of emotions, as has songwriting and utilizing my weird sense of humor.  CRAFTS is meant to lighten the mood and bring to light the ingenuity we call upon as artists to meditate, healthily escape, and get through the weirdness of life.

THE BASICS:

This music video is going to be a montage of people and their crafts

Be as silly or as serious as you want.  Use crafts you actually make, make a craft you’ve always wanted to make, make goofy crafts from when you were a little kid, show a craft fail, anything that feels like it exhibits YOUR personality.

Extra points for multiple family members, eccentric attire, & pets.

ALL VIDEOS TO BE SHOT WITH SMARTPHONES!

TIP WHILE FILMING:

BE AWARE OF LIGHTING AND SHADOWS:  USE NATURAL BRIGHT LIGHT OR POINT A BRIGHT LAMP OR TWO TOWARDS YOU TO CREATE DRAMA

WHAT I NEED FROM YOU:

TWO BASIC CLIPS

  1. Using a free stop motion ap like IMOTION for iphone or MOTION for android, make a short video of you crafting.  This could be your hands messing with some supplies, it could be a close up of you at your crafting table.  Do what you feel.  SHORT AND TO THE POINT ACTION SHOTS ARE BEST.  All videos can be sped up and clipped to suit the mood but remember, this music video will be comprised of short clips.  Stop motion is not mandatory, so if that doesn’t work for you just shoot a regular video.

WHEN FILMING, HOLD THE CAMERA HORIZONTALLY, THAT MEANS HOT DOG LONG/SIDEWAYS

TRY TO USE THE BACK CAMERA, NOT THE SELFIE CAM.  It takes a higher resolution video

MESS AROUND WITH THE INTERVAL: When you open your first project in Imotion, it will ask you what photo interval you want.  That is how many seconds in between photos.  Typically, .5 to 1 second intervals have worked for me, but it depends on the speed at which you craft

FPS=FRAMES PER SECOND: you can also speed up or slow down your video.  Experiment!

2. A HEAD TURN/CRAFT REVEAL VOGUE

Start facing away from the camera. At the count of three, turn quickly toward the camera and present your craft!

This clip will not be stop motion, but just regular phone video

Check your video settings: change your frame rate to 1080p HD at 60fps

This is meant to be dramatic and used for the chorus.  See the above GIF for inspiration Swoop your hair as you turn, wear flowy clothes! Include the whole family!1-2-3-VOGUE!

OTHER OPTIONAL CLIPS:

A SHORT PAN OF YOUR CRAFTING SPACE.  XTRA MESSY A BONUS!

A 5 SECOND VIDEO OF YOU STANDING DEADPAN WITH YOUR CRAFTING SUPPLIES

THROWING SUPPLIES IN THE AIR

POURING LIQUID SUPPLIES

DANCING WHILE WEARING CRAFTS

OUTFIT, APRON, OR FACE COVERED IN MESSY CRAFT DETRITUS

Use your imagination!  This is meant to be silly and fun for everyone. I’m open to any creative ideas you may have with your videos, but I might not be able to include everything.

Keep your clips succinct and short, under a minute each is best.
